The Port of Yokohama is located on Tokyo Bay, in the largest urban area in Japan, the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area. Up until 1889, the port was only a small fishing village but then it was merged with the nearby port of Kanagawa to create a harbour that was available to foreigners to trade.
