Qingdao (also known as Tsingtao) lies on the southern coast of the Shantung Peninsula on Kiaochow Bay. The Japanese have developed much industry in this location such as engineering shops, cotton mills and train works. The Port of Qingdao became more industrialised in 1949, including heavy industry such as steel and iron.
